Training School
What is a Training School?
Salford City Academy is proud to be a Training School. As centres of excellence for training, Training Schools act as experts in adult learning and the transfer of skills, and provide a venue for high quality professional development. Training school contributes to supporting the whole school workforce through providing a balance of training programmes that are personalised, relevant and contribute to teaching and learning. When working with colleagues that are joining the profession, Training Schools must expect their school-based support to model good practice and complement any professional standards. Other features of the role will be to extend the spread and reach of the school's work as an advocate and adviser for education and training, both locally and nationally.
As a training school, Salford City Academy aims to demonstrate a training experience which goes beyond that expected of a well-managed institution. Salford City Academy is keen to promote teaching and school support as careers and has developed strong links with initial teacher training providers (ITT) and Higher Education Institutes including STTORMM, Edge Hill University, Salford University and Manchester Metropolitan University. We are keen to offer different pathways to working and supporting in schools including GTP, PGCE, SWiS, NVQ’s, PCET, SAS and others.
The Academy sets aside each Wednesday for a twilight training session, with internal or external speakers to facilitate the training on various links to the education system with the option of all staff attending or specifically for trainee / GTP teachers. This training takes place in our specially equipped training room, which has IWB, IT equipment and seats up to 50 people.
