LEVEL 3 BEAUTY COURSE
YOU BEAUTY!
- Amy nears her NVQ Level 3 and full qualification
The desire of the Academy to be at the forefront of all forms of learning has seen the NVQ course in Beauty Therapy go from strength to strength since its introduction in Sept 2007 A typical example of this success is Amy Henderson who is just 5 months away from achieving her NVQ Level 3 and full qualification for a career in the Beauty Sector.
The 18-year-old from Peel Green has spent the past eighteen months under the tuition of Racheal Swaby during which time she has managed to develop techniques covering manicure, pedicure, eye treatments, make-up application, waxing and facials.
“Amy has been a star pupil,” said Racheal. “She has grown into the course and I think she’s responded very well to the close mentoring and hands on learning.”
A view echoed by Amy herself. She said: “I’ve learnt so much whilst here, not just about beauty techniques but also about human biology. The teaching is very personal and I’ve received a lot of support when I’ve found parts of the course particularly challenging. My confidence has grown and I now feel well equipped to embark on a career as a beautician.”
Whilst studying, students are encouraged to undertake extra industry-based qualifications that help to develop a CV for entering the industry and securing jobs. These include self tanning treatments, spray tanning, ear piercing, body wraps and training from ‘Dermalogica’ - the professional product range used on the course.
“I have completed a number of work experience placements including regular Fridays – Amy’s college day off – at the Top Notch Hair and Beauty Salon in Eccles and two weeks working alongside successful beauticians at the Worsley Marriot,” said Amy.
Between now and June, Amy intends to use her NVQ Level 2 to complete some more work experience in a small salon where she can build up her confidence in a friendly environment.
“For now I just want to establish myself in the industry but ultimately, I would love to work on Cruise Ships and see the world,” she added.
