A POSITIVE AND VIBRANT START TO 2009

With over 80 students enrolled on courses the Sixth Form has got off to a positive and vibrant start to 2009.  Academically, the start of the NVQ level 2 Football Coaching course has been a real positive, with the tutor very impressed at the standard which the students are working to. Similarly, the positive atmosphere which level 2 NVQ Beauty students have generated has provided a real buzz to the course.

Staff have also been highly impressed with the attitude and application of new students on A-Level courses ranging from Media Studies, Psychology and Sociology through to more traditional courses such as maths, English and the Sciences. Hopefully that optimism will be justified in a couple of months when students complete their modular exams and receive their results. In the summer, we are hoping that our first cohort of BTEC students in art and design, PE and Business Studies will also earn the rewards that their hard work deserves.

In Spring we organised a Taster day for year 11 pupils which highlighted the courses on offer and emphasised our commitment to retaining as many Academy pupils as possible. It was really exciting to see our next cohort already making decisions about their future; over 80 pupils from year 11 attended the session and we are confident it will have convinced the majority that their future lies with us.

Our biggest challenge ahead is ensuring that our current students remain on track and are closely supported to make the most of their potential. During Taster day next year's students also took the opportunity to use the facilities available to all Sixth Form students.
