Nazrin Choudhury Visits
On 10th January 2012 British screenwriter, actress and author Nazrin Choudhury visited Year 7, 8 and 9 students at Salford City Academy to inspire and enlighten them.
As an award-winning writer, Nazrin spoke about how she has scripted episodes of popular TV serials such as Casualty, Eastenders, Doctors and Waterloo Road as well as working on Coronation Street and her own original work. She also told students about the projects she is working on currently for the American market as well as how she is developing projects for British audiences.
Nazrin used scripts from Waterloo Road to highlight and discuss the important elements - including characters, story, tone etc. She focused of the importance of those behind the scenes, such as the writers, that bring the enjoyment of radio, theatre, TV and cinema alive.
Students had the opportunity to ask many questions about writing for programmes which ranged from ‘What gives you the inspiration for your scripts?" to "Do you keep notepads all around your house for your ideas?"
Nazrin offered much advice to our students and said: "If you have a dream, follow it and don't give up! If you want to write a book, write it! All you need is a pen and paper, and then the magic can really start to happen."
Debbie Wilkinson, Salford City Academy librarian said: "Nazrin's visit was truly inspirational and her stories so interesting, I found her visit very inspiring and interesting and I think our pupils would benefit from more time and another workshop with her, we would love to have her back in."
