History Gains Lead Status
The History department has been awarded "Lead Department" status in Salford by the Salford LEA. It means that the History department has been recognised in Salford for its high quality provision and innovative methods.
It will also now receive extra funding and will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with other schools within Salford to share resources and develop teachers and curriculum provision.
Mr Turner, Miss Rickford and Miss Meller were very pleased to hear of the award, having worked very hard this academic year, and in the previous four years, to establish the department.
When Mr Turner began working at the academy, History was a new GCSE subject, and many of the pupils had not studied History before. The subject is now firmly established at both GCSE and A-Level, and the results are improving every year.
The academy also has Lead Department status in PE and ICT.
Thanks must go to all the staff who have worked in the department in the past, as well as all those people who have supported along the way
