STUDENTS ENRICHED WITH A PASSION FOR COACHING

Internal Filler

After realising their passion for football, three of Salford City Academy's Sixth Form students decided to use their skills in Football Coaching to spread their enthusiasm amongst Primary School children, in an after school football club.

Sixth Form students Kyle Macdonald, Aaron Richardson and Scott Sheridan came up with the idea of an after school club a few months ago and decided to broach the subject with Sixth Form Support Officer and Enrichment Coordinator, Charlotte Bradshaw. She was able to contact Seedley Primary School, Salford, on behalf of the boys and arrange it for them.

Year 13 student Kyle Macdonald said "We knew that we wanted to set up an after school club and be able to teach young kids some football skills, but we weren't sure where to start. Charlotte called the school for us and set it all up so that it could be part of our Enrichment course"

The enthusiastic trio have been attending Seedley Primary for the last four weeks to provide both a PE lesson for Year 5's and an after school club for all pupils. They try to include a large ‘fun element' to keep the children engaged and interested but gradually get to develop their footballing skills.

Aaron Richardson, Year 13, said: "Some of the kids can be hard to talk to but we know how to handle them. It has definitely helped to improve our communication skills. I really enjoy training them and who knows; maybe we are training up the next Wayne Rooney!"

Seedley Primary's Head Teacher Karen Hulse, said: "When we were contacted by Salford City Academy's Sixth Form we thought it was a fantastic idea and were so pleased to hear that the three Football Coaching Students were so eager to help. It has proven such a massive success that we have a waiting list of children wanting to join.

Karen added: "Without the help and enthusiasm from Kyle, Aaron and Scott our pupils would not be able to enjoy playing football during and after school hours. The 7-11 year olds are learning to train and play together whilst gaining excellent football skills."

When the Sixth Form students have finished their studies, they plan to apply for International training course, Camp America. Year 12 student Scott Sheridan said "The thought of being able to mix something that I love with the feeling of being on a permanent holiday, sounds like my ideal job!"
