STUDENTS TO LAY DOWN DAYTONA MANCHESTER’S CHRISTMAS SOUNDTRACK

Internal Filler

Ask any musician, and they'll tell you that the most satisfying emotion they experience is hearing crowds of people basking in enjoyment as their music is blasted out of amplified speakers.

Well, 16 Year 10 Creative and Media and BTEC Music students from Salford City Academy now have the opportunity to do precisely that, as Daytona Manchester karting circuit has set them the task of composing its Christmas Soundtrack.

Students on the Creative and Media Diploma visited Daytona Race Track in September to talk to the technicians and see first hand how the Trafford Park karting track operates and understand what genres of music would be appropriate. Students will be submitting their work to Daytona in mid-November before it is judged.

Daytona Assistant Manager, Nick Hughes said "We decided it was about time to refresh the soundtracks we use to build anticipation and excitement before racing begins.

"After visiting Salford City Academy in July we noted what a well organised and equipped music department and studio they had and thought it would be a great idea to set students the task of composing a new demo track.

"We're really excited to see what they produce and can't wait to hear the tracks pumping through our sound system".

SCA Music Teacher, Helen Pechey said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to work to a real brief given to us by a real company. The students are taking the challenge seriously and are working hard to develop their tracks in time to meet the deadline. It's great to see them so motivated."

And the pupils are just as thrilled. Jessica Williams, a year 10 Creative and Media student added: "It was really exciting to go and visit Daytona and see what actually happens there. It's nice that we are writing our music for a real life scenario and not just a made up one. I can't wait to see whose piece they decide on!"
