Salford City Academy celebrates GCSE success

Taking two buses to Salford City Academy from her home in Little Hulton for the past five years has certainly paid off for star student Emma Callaghan, who racked up a raft of outstanding GCSE results including seven ‘A' and four ‘B' grades.

Emma was awarded a total of 12 GCSEs and will now be joining the Academy's successful Sixth Form which recently enjoyed a 100% A-level success rate.

Hard-working Emma will begin her further education in the Sixth Form with several of her high performing friends who also scored top GCSE grades and she will be studying Art, Psychology and English.

Emma said: "I chose to stay on at the Academy because over the last five years I have been encouraged and pushed to reach my full potential. My friends will be going to the Sixth Form too and we are looking forward to meeting new people and enjoying the small class sizes."

Salford City Academy is a £25 million school located in Peel Green, Salford. The school's new Sixth Form recently enjoyed a 100% success rate at A level with every single student scoring grades A-D in their A-level examinations and all of those who applied being accepted for their chosen university degree courses.

Principal Elizabeth Haddock said: "We are very proud of Emma, her dedication has been unbelievable. You don't often hear of a teenager getting up at the crack of dawn each day to come to school. I wish her all the best and hope she has similar success with her A-levels in two years time."

Principal Haddock expressed her delight with the Academy's GCSE results, "They show we are continuing to improve life chances for all of our pupils, helping to achieve their goals and aim to achieve a place at university. The results also demonstrate that Salford City Academy is an improving academy which provides the highest standards and supports young people to achieve their full potential."
