Salford City Academy student celebrates GCSE success

Salford City Academy student Francis Allison, is well on his way towards a legal career after racking up a raft of impressive GCSE results.  Francis picked up a fantastic 10 GCSE’s including four ‘A’ grades.

Head boy Francis has already spent time doing work experience at Kenworthy’s Chambers in Manchester, an experience which, he says, has confirmed his desire to enter the legal profession.

Francis said: “Spending time at the chambers really secured my decision to begin working towards a career in law. The placement was extremely interesting and the employees at Kenworthy’s took the time to make sure the placement was as beneficial as possible.”

And it was the work experience that spurred him on to get his head down and strive for top results.

Francis says he also has his mum to thank for his GCSE success. “She really encouraged me and pushed me to study and it has really paid off,” says Francis who joined Salford City Academy as a Year 7 student.

“I’m now so pleased she did.” Salford City Academy is a £25 million school located in Peel Green, Salford. The school’s new Sixth Form recently enjoyed a 100% success rate at A level with every single student scoring grades A-E in their A level examinations and all of those who applied being accepted for their chosen university degree courses.

Principal Elizabeth Haddock said: “We are very proud of our Head Boy Francis and indeed a number of other high performing students who gained large numbers of A and A* grades.  He has worked very hard over the last two years and has set a very good example to the other pupils at the Academy.”

“Our GCSE results show we are continuing to improve life chances for all of our pupils and the staff are doing all they can to ensure that the Academy goes from strength to strength."

“We were also delighted with this year’s 100% A level pass rate. Put this along side the GCSE results and you have an academy which demonstrates constant improvement and provides the highest standards in supporting young people to achieve their full potential.”

Charlotte Rendle-Short, Deputy Chief Executive of the United Learning Trust, which sponsors the Salford City and other Academy schools across the North West, said: “Across the North West, ULT academies are giving local children a strong education and encouraging them to consistently outperform themselves.  I congratulate all our students and staff on their achievements today.”
