PUPILS PASS WITH FLYING COLOURS
Salford City Academy celebrates 100% A-Level pass rate
Salford City Academy has achieved a 100% pass rate with every single pupil achieving A to E grades in today’s A-Level results. The Sixth Form’s first results since opening in 2007 also puts them top of the class among the UK’s city academies run by the United Learning Trust.
Out of 26 pupils, 15 will be starting university in September demonstrating “another case of breaking down barriers” at the £25 million school in Peel Green, Salford.
It’s a massive leap forward, in only the second sixth form year, for pupils who first had to learn that gaining a place in further education was within their reach. “These results are hugely significant,” says Principal, Elizabeth Haddock, “not only do we have pupils with a guaranteed place at university for the academic year 09/10 but it also gives hope and pride to our current AS Level and GCSE pupils."
“These results show that high expectations are achievable and sustainable - and these are setting new standards to which younger pupils can aspire. “I could not have asked for more from staff who personally mentor and encourage pupils. They have stayed outside school hours and have opened up the school during weekends and holidays to organise revision classes.”
And those revision classes have certainly paid off for pupil Martin Redgrave who has achieved straight ‘A’ grades in French, German and Maths. To top it all off, he has also has an AS Level, an A in Chemistry, under his belt. Martin said: “The learning environment at this Sixth Form has been fantastic and the teachers are really supportive. I’ve loved my time here and am looking forward to embarking on university life in Birmingham where I will be studying Modern Languages.”
Director of Sixth Form Matt Bold said: “The impressive thing about Martin is his desire to learn. His grades reflect the hard work he has put into his coursework over the past two years. We wish him all the best for the future and we hope he keeps in touch to let us know how he is getting on.”
Courses at Salford City Academy Sixth Form last for two years and enable students to progress onto university, apprenticeships and employment with excellent qualifications. After two years students emerge as mature, well qualified, employable citizens. Sixth Formers at Salford City Academy are well prepared to meet the many challenges of the outside world and achieve their full potential.
“We are over the moon with our first set of ‘A’ level results,” added Elizabeth Haddock. “The staff and students have all worked extremely hard to achieve 100% pass rate. Martin Redgrave in particular has produced a remarkable set of results with four ‘A’ grades. It demonstrates how a school sixth form can reach the highest levels of achievement and for some students a small local environment is just the place for them to thrive.”
