English Department
The highly dedicated English Department staff work collaboratively in a friendly and supportive environment. We encourage our pupils to aspire through close tracking of progress and bespoke support packages; we constantly strive to bring out the best in all of our pupils.
The curriculum is designed to enrich students' understanding of the wider world and raise achievement through the exploration of a range of fiction and non-fiction. Across the age range we teach a curriculum rich in media and focused on the development of life skills. We also invite professional writers, QCA and AQA examiners to the academy to share their expertise and motivate pupils. The department is very well resourced in terms of written and media texts.
The Learning Resource Centre is an additional facility that is used on a weekly basis by pupils to borrow books and/or to work on the I.C.T. equipment.
Students have the opportunity to regularly meet with famous authors such as SAS-hero Chris Ryan, Alan Gibbons, Chris d' Lacy and many more. Our students are also welcome to use the Learning Resource Centre at break and lunch to catch up on homework, utilise SAM Learning or take part in our literacy competitions. By running the competitions our students are having fun and learning simultaneously.
