Sociology


What is Sociology?

Sociology is the study of society and of people and their behavior. The course offers students the opportunity of developing the essential knowledge and understanding of central aspects of sociological thought and methods. It is designed to encourage students to demonstrate the application of a range of skills and consider the integration of sociological themes: such as socialisation, culture, identity, and power and stratification.

Students will acquire knowledge of contemporary social processes and social changes. Students will be encouraged to develop their own social awareness through active engagement with the contemporary social world.

A2 outline

Students will continue to focus on contemporary society but they should demonstrate a wider range and greater depth of knowledge and understanding and more highly developed skills of application, analysis, interpretation and evaluation.
