A talented Salford School Girl has been selected as one of 6 to take part in ‘New Dance Makers 09', organised by the world famous Royal Ballet.

14-year old Abigail Healey from Salford City Academy in Eccles will now spend a week in London - 11th to 15th May - with dance artists from the Royal Ballet and East London Dance.

An active member of dance group ‘Salford Commotions', Abigail has been performing since she was 4 and is currently well advanced of her years having already achieved RAD ballet intermediate level.

She has previously attended the Northern Ballet summer school as well as various dance shows in Blackpool, the Dance House Theatre in Manchester and the Robert Powell Theatre in Salford. She has also been a dancer in pantomime ‘Cinderella' with Tina O'Brien and Mike Toolan.

Whilst in London Abigail will take part in street and ballet dance sessions, explore movement and choreography, meet professional artists at the Royal Opera House and watch them rehearse, visit a youth dance group in East London, take part in rehearsals in the evening and finally perform what she and the group have learnt at the Royal Opera House itself on 15 May at 5.30pm.

By fully engaging in the creative process in this way, the Royal Ballet believes young dancers will blossom into some of the UK's finest adult performers.

On Wednesday 10th June the group will reform for a performance at the opening of the Newham Festival for Culture, the Arts and Sport at Stratford Circus, East London and on the 18th June the group will also perform at The Lowry theatre in Abigail's hometown of Salford.
