Author - Alan Durant - 26th September 2011
Author Alan Durant visited the Academy on the 26th September, Alan worked with year 8 pupils, setting them writing tasks about things they didn't like and from that they had to write a Horror story, Alan went round year 8 classes and worked with our pupils by doing a Writing Workshop, he also told how he became a writer and how he used to write in his shed at the bottom of his garden, just like Roald Dahl did when he was writing all his well known books!
Alan, also brought in Teeth from animals and some of our pupils, had to make up a story about what animal they thought it had come from!! We picked out 8 year 8 pupils who later had lunch with Alan in the library and they were able to ask him questions about his work, then later all year pupils were able to come in the library and speak with him.
Alan, has written many books from Primary age right up to young adult age, so if you do feel like reading any of his work we have several titles in our school library.
Alan's words to our pupils was,'' always carry a small notebook with you and just make notes on things that you want to keep in mind and then if you ever feel like writing you can always look back and there will be a story not far away "
