Geography Field Trip to Peak District - 19th September 2011

On Monday 19th September 2011 a group of Year 11 students were taken on a Geography field trip to the Peak District.  The objective of the trip was to enable the students to collect data to measure the impact of tourism on the village of Castleton, a popular tourist attraction in the Peak District.

The students used various data collection technique, for example, land-use surveys, footpath erosion measurements and pedestrian questionnaires, in order to collect their own data for their investigation report.

A core part of the students' Geography GCSE work is to collect data themselves and analyse the data they have collected.  This counts as 25% of their final GCSE grade.

This trip also gave them the opportunity to use work from the classroom or that they had only seen on photographs during lessons.  It also gave the students a chance to see a beautiful part of the country that they may not have visited before.

Mr. Edmondson, Head of Geography said: "I was very impressed with the rapid growth in confidence of some pupils when asking passers-by questions about their reasons for visiting the village on that day."

Student Natasha Bannister said: "I am now more confident in communicating with new people."
