Trip to Paris - 10 - 14th April 2011
During the Easter holidays, 45 pupils and staff spent 4 days in Paris. An early start didn’t seem to dampen the excitement, and within 6 hours we were at the Eurotunnel in Dover. For some, this was their first experience of travelling through the tunnel. The warm sunshine in France stayed with us for the rest of the time there.
Our first night was in a hotel in the north of the city, which was very comfortable and we had a floor all to ourselves. They provided a continental breakfast each morning and an evening meal after an exhausting day at night. We also made sure that all the hotel staff spoke to our students in French to help them with their vocabulary. The students were also asked to speak French whenever they went into shops, cafes or anywhere else whilst we were in Paris. This was a perfect opportunity for the students to improve their French language skills and to see some of the famous sites in Paris.
Next day we did the tourist spots. First, the Sacré Coeur – the white basilica on the hill, then after passing the Moulin Rouge, we stopped at the Arc de Triomphe, before heading to Trocadéro area and the Eiffel Tower. After going to the top and down again, we walked along the Seine to pick up a bateau-mouche for a 90 minute boat ride on the river. This gave us the best views of the other famous monuments in Paris.
We spent a whole day in Disneyland theme park, which really wasn’t long enough, and on the final night we went bowling. Before long it was time to head back home via the Cité Europe Shopping Mall in Calais and the Eurotunnel back to the UK. We arrived back home totally shattered – but ask anyone who went and they will tell you it was a stomping good time. Or in the words of the Head Girl: “Awesome!!”
