Visit to the Buxton Spa at Derby University - 21st March 2011
A group of year 12 and 13 Hair and Beauty students were taken on a visit to the Buxton Spa at Derby University on 21st March 2011. Again, it was a very successful visit, giving all our students an insight into the courses available and student life at Derby University.
In the morning the students were given a tour of the university and had a talk on the very interesting history of the grade 2 listed building. In the afternoon they were taken to the Spa, where they had the opportunity to use the very nice facilities and have a treatment from the students on the courses at the moment.
They all enjoyed the use of the pool, the sauna and steam room as well as using some of the facial treatments available before being called in for their treatment, which was either a body wrap or a hot stone massage.
Two of the year 13 students, Yvonne Zhen and Jade Tomlinson have had confirmation of a place at the University of Derby, Buxton Spa which is due to start in September 2011.
Both girls said that they wouldn’t have even considered Derby University if they hadn’t been on an Applied Learning visit with Miss Anderson, in fact they wouldn’t even have know about it. Yvonne said “I didn’t think I could achieve a place at University, but with the encouragement and help from staff at SCA 6th Form, I was made to feel I had the confidence and I could achieve this”.
Jade said “I am more excited now about starting my course at Buxton, because I have had a chance to speak to tutors about the courses and I have seen how close the halls of residence are to the university”.
