SOAPY SCIENCE - 2nd February 2011

This event was organised and sponsored by the Rotary Club and the presenters were Steve Wilson who is a Chemist and Rob Barlow who is a Scientist and both work at BNFL.

The Rotary Club invited students from schools all over the North West, to make good use of our facilities and to allow as many students as possible to see this fabulous presentation on the Science of Bubbles.

The schools that were invited and came along were :Crompton House School, Chadderton High, Derby High, Irlam & Cadishead High, Elton High, Birchwood High, Culcheth High and Aelreds High as well as students from SCA.  In total there were approximately 354 students that came to see the presentation across the day.

The presentation was on types of bubbles, where bubbles come from, the colours in bubbles.  They also demonstrated different bubbles and how gases react with simple experiments using custard powder and yeast.  Some of the students were brought down to the front to take part in the experiments and create the big bubbles.  The last presentation saw a student standing in the middle of a ring and a bubble was created from their feet to their head, which the students found fascinating.

Overall a brilliant day, that was fun and yet educational.
