Careers Event at Salford City Academy

On Wednesday 26th January 2011 we put together a Careers Fair for all the students in years 9, 10 and 11.  There were 14 displays from Employers, Training Providers and Colleges including: Salford College, Trafford College, Start Training, the Police, City West Housing, Army, RAF, Navy, Aimhigher and Connexions.

Students prepared to visit the event through a range of activities in their classrooms with the help of the BEP, such activities included a priority sheet and “Business Bingo”; this gave the students an opportunity to think about their career path before interacting with the business volunteers.

The students came up to the hall for half an hour to speak to the people they wanted to about their future career and/or education when they leave school. All of the stands were busy all afternoon, giving information, advice and guidance to all the students.  Some students were unsure of who or what they wanted to do, so they were guided towards the Connexions personal advisers to talk about possible options for their future.

All the students in years 10 and 11 found the careers event very informative and feed back from them was all very good.  Our aim for the year 9 students was to get them to think about their option choices and have a look at some areas of work available for them when they do leave school in 2 years time.

Feedback from all the visitors was also very good.  They said that lots of questions were asked and information given out and well received, and behaviour was excellent.  Some of the students arranged further contact with some of the visitors to further discuss their futures.
