Trip to Auschwitz - 4th November 2010
Salford City Academy were given the opportunity to send 2 of our 6th Form students on a 1 day trip to Auschwitz in Poland to visit the sites of the holocaust.
The trip was offered from the Holocaust Education Trust to improve the knowledge in education of the atrocities that went on in Auschwitz during the war.
Sopie Stevens and Rachel Cropper in year 13, were the 2 lucky students to go on the trip with Mr. Eaton.
Their first port of call was the town of Auschwitz and the sight of the old synagogue that was there before it was destroyed during the holocaust.
They then went on to the Auschwitz 1 work camp, which included the Holocaust Museum, with lots of exhibits, making them think about the people that were there and what they must have gone through. They then went on to Auschwitz Birkenau where over a million people were exterminated during the holocaust. Again, building a picture of the lives and deaths of these innocent people.
Mr. Eaton said the day was very interesting and at times harrowing.
The students will now produce a powerpoint presentation about their visit to be included in their History A Level course work, and they will also work with the year 9 pupils in their history classes. This will give them a chance to relay their experience of their trip and what the Holocaust was and how it has impacted on world history.
