6th Form visit to Edge Hill University - 2nd September 2010

Internal Filler

SCA 6th Form arranged a visit to Edge Hill University for the Year 12 and 13 students on the first day of the new Academic year, 2nd September 2010.  This induction day was aimed as a team building exercise for all students to get to know each other and the 6th form staff.  In addition to this, all students gained experience of visiting a higher education institution, the halls of residence, class rooms, lecture theatres and eating areas (at a university that is a popular choice for SCA students).

During the visit, students were split into smaller groups and took part in four sessions; budgeting, team analysis, skills analysis and a critical thinking debate.  All activities were run by current Edge Hill University students.  This provided 6th form students with the opportunity to ask questions about university life and get an idea of what some undergraduates are like, possibly dispelling stereotypes and identifying similarities e.g. down to earth, friendly, from the local area, courses studied at college etc.

At the end of the day students were given a tour around the university campus and spoke to current undergraduates about what it would be like to study there and live in the halls of residence.  By the end of the day, students and staff had built stronger relationships, students had developed key skills needed for further education and everyday life and the year 12 students had had their first experience of University.
