Creative Writing with Year 10 - March 2010
A group of Year 10 pupils enjoyed a creative writing day at Manchester Metropolitan University to learn from professional writers.
In March, ten year 10 pupils attended an Aim Higher Creative Writing Day. There were workshops which gave pupils the opportunity to develop their descriptive writing skills.
They were able to discover more about prose, poetry, drama and journalism whilst working with university students and professional writers.
To begin the day, they watched a monologue in performane; "we learnt about how personal experiences can shape drama. Next, we enjoyed a tour of the campus". The experience allowed the pupils to gain a feel for a day in the life of a typical undergraduate.
Finally, they attended a workshop with a professional story writer. The pupils enjoyed the varied activities and new approaches to producing their own descriptive writing pieces. These skills can be utilised in their GCSE English language course.
"I was very proud of the participation of all my pupils - the writing they produced on the day was truly excellent!" said Laura McFarland, English Teacher at Salford City Academy.
