Regional Language Network (North West) 28th May 2010
The Applied Learning Team have been meeting with Cristina Sousa, Director of the Regional Language Network for the North West to talk about linking our Languages department with a business that uses foreign languages in their day to day schedule. Cristina linked us up with a company called The Translation People, based in Manchester and one of their employees, Stephanie Beckwith, who was willing to come into school and work with students studying GCSE in Year 10 and 11. Stephanie came into school on 28th May 2010 to meet a group of year 9 students, who Mr. Penney thought would benefit from this Ambassador working with them in the future.
Cristina introduced herself to the students and told them a little bit about the Regional Language Network and how many languages she spoke. She then introduced Stephanie, who did a power point presentation, on languages in the work place and how interesting she finds her work and how much she enjoys it. The students seem to have a rapour with Stephanie, because she is very young and she has a well paid job and gets to travel quite a lot for her work.
At the end of the session, the students had plenty of questions to ask Stephanie, the first one being, as always, “How much do you get paid”.
