Daytona Visit - September 2009

Creative and Media and BTec Music Students in year 10 have been working in conjunction with Daytona Race Track in Trafford Park. Daytona is a national karting company that have set Salford City Academy Students the task of composing music suitable for their corporate events leading up to Christmas. The pieces will be judged and the winning student will have their music played at corporate events at Daytona.

Students on the Creative and Media Diploma visited Daytona Race Track in September to talk to the technicians to see first hand what actually goes on there and what genres of music would be appropriate for the racing. Students will be submitting their work to Daytona during November to have it judged.

Nick Hughes, Assistant Director of Daytona Racing in Trafford Park said “We decided that it was about time we refreshed the demonstration music we use on our race events to build the anticipation and excitement before the racing begins.  We remembered after our show around at Salford City Academy what a great & well equipped Music Department and studio they had, and that it would be a great idea if we could somehow tie in our search for a new demo track with the students at Salford City Academy, we are really excited to see what the students produce and cant wait to hear the tracks pumping through the sound system”.

Jessica Williams, a year 10 Creative and Media Student at the academy also said “It was really exciting to go and visit Daytona and see what actually happens there. It’s nice that we are writing our music for a real live scenario and not just a made up one – I can’t wait to see whose piece they decide on!”

And neither can we!
