Museum of Science & Industry - September 2009

As part of our Super Learning Day experience, our lucky year 9's had the opportunity to visit the Manchester Museum of Science & Industry.

The English department is embracing the challenge of producing a curriculum that meets the needs of the 21st century by the continuing development and implementation of an innovative pedagogy. By embedding the six principles of Applied Learning into our key stage three English schemes of work, we aim to become one of the leading departments in Salford that meets the challenge of providing our pupils with the very best learning opportunities.

At the core of the year 9 MOSI trip were the following principles;

AL3: Real life investigations and active enquiry.

AL4: Learning through doing.

AL5: Interactions with other learners through group work.

AL6: Learning in different environments.

It is this interaction with a range of people, both in and out of the classroom, that will truly engage learners and, if successful, provide our pupils with the tools and skills they require to become employable and active members of society.

Through the academic year the pupils are developing their skills for speaking and listening with their English teachers. Super Learning Day provided them with an opportunity to develop these skills by enabling them to focus on key areas of the trip that they enjoyed.

Here is a short video presentation of our pupils at work.
