Conner Ellison, Year 9, tells us how he has stepped up to some charity challenges.
Conner caught the charity bug in Year 7 when the whole school walked to Makro in Irlam and back to raise money for a good cause. It spurred him on to take on a challenge set by Mr Charles, Science Teacher, to join a bike ride for Comic Relief in March 2011.
Conner joined Mr Charles and Mr O'Sullivan alongside Year 10 students Tom Williams, Jordan Cook and Jordan Savage on the journey to Old Trafford to pick up a Manchester United pendant to raffle off at school. The total raised from sponsorship and the raffle was £160.
In April, Conner joined friends on the Walk for Heroes from Worsley to the city centre. He raised over £100 which will be donated to local army barracks in support of Manchester soldiers.
"Ever since I was little I've wanted to join the Army, so I wanted to take part to raise money for soldiers and give them the credit they deserve for the job they do," said Conner.
Conner's endeavours don't end there; a charity close to his heart is Hastings and Rother Voluntary Association for the Blind. Conner supports them, as one of his relatives is blind and he is visually impaired himself.
Conner is now brainstorming ideas for fundraisers for this charity - possibly another bike ride or a sale of sorts at school. Watch this space!
