Skydiving Sixth Former Becky Tonge
Becky Tonge, Year 13, has recently completed a skydive raising funds for the National Autistic Society:Why did you do the skydive?
"I wanted to raise money for the National Autistic Society (NAS) which supports families of people with autism. My step-mum, who works at the academy, found it difficult at times when her son was diagnosed over 14 years ago with autism. The NAS has really helped her.
"I did the skydive so that the exceptional work they do can carry on in the future as they can be a real lifeline for people with autism and their families."
How was the experience?
"Words cannot even begin to describe the feeling! It was the most amazing thing I have ever done in my life!
"As soon as you jump out of the plane your nerves and fears vanish. The best part of the skydive was that it was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen - floating like a bird at 14,000ft!
"I had full confidence in my instructor as he knew exactly what to do and how to take care of my departure and make sure I had a safe landing.
"I loved everything about it and would advise everyone to try it at least once. You won't be disappointed! Raising money for such a fantastic and worthwhile cause just added to the pleasure of the dive. I cannot wait to have another go to raise money for them next year!"
