Year 7 Girls Football Champs
On 23rd March 2011 Salford City Academy hosted the Salford Schools Girls' Football Tournament. Teams from the academy, Swinton High, Buile Hill and St George's competed against each other to win the title.
Two Year 10 pupils, Lauren Hunter and Daniel Leigh, kindly volunteered to referee. They were great ambassadors for the academy and I would like to take this opportunity to say "well done".
SCA's first game was against the Swinton B team and this finished 2-0 to SCA. The next match was against the Swinton A team which also ended 2-0 to SCA.
Our third game was against St George's. This was an important game to win since they had beaten their three previous competitors. After a great game, the SCA team won 1-0!
It was then time for our last game and it was getting very exciting now! The last team to play was Buile Hill who looked quite big and strong. SCA went out confidently and played well; our defence was solid but we just couldn't get through to score and it ended 0-0.
We ended the tournament on 10 points closely followed by St George's with 9 points. This meant Salford City Academy won the tournament and the trophy!
Well done to all the girls involved: Melissa Raynor (Joint Captain) and Leah Nolan (Joint Captain and scorer of 2 goals), Megan Smart (scorer of 1 goal), Rose Collantine (scorer of 2 goals), Rhia Gardener, Serena Bevan and Nicole Chapman.
