Big Win for Keeton Hill

Internal Filler Ask any musician, and they’ll tell you that the most satisfying emotion they experience is hearing crowds of people basking in enjoyment as their music is blasted out of amplified speakers.

Well, for the past two months 16 Year 10 Creative and Media and BTEC Music students from Salford City Academy have been competing to do precisely that after Daytona Manchester karting circuit set them the task of composing its Christmas Soundtrack.

And we are now happy to announce Daytona have chosen a winner, Keeton Hill, who will be presented with his prize next Wednesday at 2pm before the soundtrack is blasted out of the venue’s speakers for the very first time.

Students on the Creative and Media Diploma visited Daytona Race Track in September to talk to the technicians and see first hand how the Trafford Park karting track operates and understand what genres of music would be appropriate.

Daytona Assistant Manager, Nick Hughes said “We decided it was about time to refresh the soundtracks we use to build anticipation and excitement before racing begins.

“After visiting Salford City Academy in July we noted what a well organised and equipped music department and studio they had and thought it would be a great idea to set students the task of composing a new demo track.

“We’ve been really excited by what they’ve produced and are really pleased with the winning track”.

SCA Music Teacher, Helen Pechey said: “This has been a fantastic opportunity for our students to work to a real brief given to us by a real company. The students have taken the challenge seriously and are working hard to develop their tracks in time to meet the deadline. It’s been great to see them so motivated.”

And the pupils are just as thrilled. Jessica Williams, a year 10 Creative and Media student added: “It was really exciting to go and visit Daytona and see what actually happens there. I’ve really enjoyed writing music for a real life scenario and not just a made up one. I can’t wait to see whose piece they decide on!”
