Pupils Exhibit Art at the Lowry
Ellie Scott, Harrison MacMillan and Emily Wolstenholme, Year 9, joined an art project at Oakwood High School last term, with Factory Records. Our promising artists were joined by three pupils from Oasis Academy Media City and another three from Oakwood High School.
The students were given artwork by Peter Saville, who designed the Factory Record album covers, for inspiration and asked to produce art which created an impression of Manchester and Salford.
The project gave the students an opportunity to work with a professional artist, as well as meeting and interacting with other students of different backgrounds from Salford.
Ellie Scott said "We each had a blank canvas and I worked on some abstract ideas! We all produced quite a few pieces each."
Emily Wolstenholme said "We started with the music theme and then each produced 3 pieces. I really enjoyed the project, it was something different!"
Harrison MacMillan describes his work, "I looked at Peter Saville's style then created a chaotic picture with a tank shooting roses surrounded by fields."
The project culminated in an exhibition in local gallery, The Lowry.
Ellie said "We all had to choose our favourite piece and then we had to vote for the best one - I voted for Harrison's but they all voted for mine!"
This meant that Ellie's artwork was made the feature exhibit, alongside artwork from Harrison and Emily.
At the exhibition, which opened on 6th October, music and dancers accompanied the artwork which was designed especially to compliment it. SCA pupils Amy Richards, Year 9, Shannon Travis, Year 9, and Kathryn Bancroft, Year 8, were picked from our Gifted and Talented dancers to perform and represent us alongside dancers from the other schools.
